Tough Bloke Challenge 2012

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of competing in the Melbourne Tough Bloke Challenge.

A wet day greeted us as we drove to the venue in Wonga Park ensuring that the course itself would be nice and muddy.

On arrival my 11 year old son Lachlan asked if he could do it as well. No training. No change of clothes. I was a little hesitant at first but I would be with him the whole way so why not!!

We changed the registration details from a friend that couldn't make it and we were booked in to start at 10.30am.

Lachlan was awesome. As we approached the first obstacle he told me that he would stop and assess each one to see how we could best approach them. Work them out in other words. Wise words!

First obstacle was a mud pit with barbed wire over the top meaning we mad to get down low and crawl through the mud to avoid the wire. Needless to say we were well and truly muddy after that!! Game on!!

Our MovNat training that we do at Livestrong Primal Fitness sure came in handy. All of the obstacles had elements of balance and fear and best of all, team work. Working with my son to make it through them all was by far the best element of the day.

Getting back to nature and discovering movements that are not 'normal' meant getting well and truly out of our comfort zone.

And no better way to connect with my son. Getting back into nature. Competing against no one but the elements.

Truly a far better outcome than what I had expected from the day!!

We will be back as a team next year.
